About NES Specialty Inspections
NES Specialty Inspections opened in 2017 out of Norco, California, built on more than fifteen years of experience in the field before that. We do special inspections and materials testing for the commercial construction industry, and we have grown from a startup to an agency that has tested more than 90 million square feet of slab and completed over 2,500 inspections.
We are still a small company. That is on purpose. The owner still answers the phone, and if there is a problem on a project you are not going to be routed through three people to get to somebody who can fix it.
What we are actually good at
Every inspection agency lists the same services. Here is where we are different.
Floor tolerance work. It is the largest part of our business and it is the part most agencies treat as an add-on. We measure inside the 72 hour window that ASTM E1155 requires, we run defined traffic testing with a rolling profilograph for narrow aisle and superflat floors, and we have done it across enough square footage that we know what a slab is going to do before it does it.
Scanning before cutting. We scan before every core we cut, including our own. It has kept a lot of people from finding a post-tension tendon the hard way.
Being available when concrete goes down. Which is nights, weekends, and 4 a.m. in July.
Safety
Safety comes first on every project, and in this work that means two things.
It means our people go home. Our inspectors work around live equipment, open excavations, structural steel, and occupied buildings, and they follow the site rules like they belong to the contractor's crew, because for the duration of that shift they do.
And it means the building is safe when it is done. Special inspection exists because somebody has to verify that what was designed is what got built. When we report a discrepancy, we are not creating a problem for the contractor. We are catching one before it is buried under the next lift.
Certifications and credentials
Our field staff hold ICC special inspector certifications in the categories they work. Field technicians performing concrete sampling are ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician Grade I certified. Welding inspection is performed under an AWS Certified Welding Inspector, and nondestructive testing is performed by technicians qualified to ASNT Level II.
